Set in rural Virginia in the 1950s and ’60s, the acclaimed film Loving tells the touching true story of Richard and Mildred Loving (played by Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga). The interracial couple traveled to Washington, D.C. where interracial marriage was legal, but were arrested for violating Virginia’s anti-miscegenation law when they returned home. The couple took their case all the way to the Supreme Court which unanimously sided with the Lovings and forever ended race-based legal restrictions on marriage in the United States.

The film showcases the beauty of their love story against the ugliness of racial tensions, as seen in this trailer released today by Focus Features.
