Gillian Flynn‘s thrilling 2012 novel about a missing housewife became an instant must-read. Now, the film adaptation, with Ben Affleck as Nick Dunne and Rosamund Pike as the titular Gone Girl, is angling to be one of the most anticipated releases of 2014.
The trailer paints a haunting picture of Affleck’s philandering husband lost in a seemingly never-ending search for his wife. In it, fans of the novel are privy to select scenes from the film, set like a music video to Richard Butler‘s cover of the famous Charles Aznavour song, “She.”
The minute-and-a-half long preview features very little dialogue, but gives a glimpse at Nick and Amy’s tumultuous marriage. The montage begins with Affleck’s Nick speaking to a candlelight vigil about his wife’s disappearance and ands with the his character telling viewers, “I did not kill my wife. I am not a murderer.”
In today’s age of uber-passionate fans, the post-production team went into painstaking detail to make sure everything–down to the phone numbers and URLs on Amy’s missing posters–tied together. Anyone interested in visiting findamazingamy.com will find a fully-functioning website that has a scrolling news ticker with search updates, and the phone number on the billboard in the trailer is also real. If fans try and call in to 1-855-4-AMY-TIPS, they will hear a recording of someone reading the first few pages of Flynn’s novel.
Gone Girl will open in theaters October 3. What do you think of the trailer? Will you go see the movie?
