Michelle Obama has been a pioneer for healthy eating in America for some time and last night she took her pro-veggie advocacy to Jimmy Kimmel Live! In the first of a series of ads using a sassy attitude to advertise produce, Kimmel hilariously misunderstands when the first lady attempts to explain the campaign, “I couldn’t be more excited about a new campaign called FNV.”
“As in ‘eat your effin vegetables,'” Kimmel said.
“What was that?” Obama asked.
“What was what?” Kimmel asked.
“The effin?” Obama asked.
“It’s the name of the thing,” Kimmel said. “Effin V. Effin V.”
“No. No, it isn’t, Jimmy. I think you might be a little confused,” Obama said.
Obama explained that “V” stands for “Vegetables” and the “F” stands for …
“You know, I’m going to stop you right there because I know what it stands for. I have HBO,” he said.
The sketch may have been funny, but the message is serious. Americans (especially children) are eating too much fast food and not enough fresh fruits and vegetables. Obama announced the ambitious FNV campaign at a summit for the Partnership for a Healthier America in February.
“If folks are going to pour money into marketing for unhealthy foods, then let’s fight back with ads for healthy foods, right? Let’s do this,” Obama said.
Other celebrities joining the cause in future ads include Jessica Alba, Victor Cruz and Kristen Bell.
