Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, a Sharknado sequel is coming this summer, and Matt Lauer and Al Roker are making cameos!
Lauer broke the news on the Today show and revealed he and Roker already filmed their scenes for Sharknado 2 in NBC’s Studio 1A.
The first Sharknado, which aired last summer on the SyFy channel, was about a freak hurricane that swept up thousands of killer sharks and dropped them over Los Angeles. In this summer’s sequel, the sharks will terrorize New York City.

“Think of it this way: this is a twister…with teeth,” Roker told Lauer during one of their filming outtakes. “Enough said.”
“Enough said, indeed, Al. Thank you very much,” Lauer replied, trying, and failing, to keep a straight face.
The outtakes video also showed Lauer and Roker wrestling a lumpy green pillow, which will be presumably digitally transformed into a shark.
“That was the pivotal scene in the entire movie that we’ve just given away,” said Lauer.
Sharknado 2 will air on July 30, 2014 on the SyFy channel—as Lauer reminds us, “just in time for the Oscars.”
