Was there a voting conspiracy worth of a Scandal plot line during last week’s Dancing With the Stars double elimination? Former NHL player Sean Avery seems to think so.
After the first week of competition, Avery and his partner Karina Smirnoff performed a routine that showed promise, but found themselves ranked third to last in the judges scores. Len Goodman thought his contemporary dance was “full of intensity” but “needed more finesse here and there.” The duo used the critique as building block to come back with a stronger dance in week two.

Unfortunately, a surprising double elimination in the ballroom let them perform their salsa, but not competitively as they would be eliminated later in the episode. Avery, dissatisfied with the results, vented his frustrations on Twitter and told his fans he would explain the real reason he was sent home during his Good Morning America appearance on Tuesday.

While on GMA, Avery explained that a disagreement with producer Conrad Green likely landed him the early elimination.
“I think we knew as of probably Monday last week that our fate was sealed,” he said on GMA. “I had a conversation with Conrad, one of the producers, and I was upset at the package that they had brought in the week previous, and it was a very tacky attempt to show me as the bad boy of DWTS. And I think in reality TV or some sort of competition, if you have a disagreement with the producers then generally that seals your fate quite early.”
Last week, Avery joined distance swimmer Diana Nyad in taking a final bow. Many fans of the show (and a handful of our commenters) were shocked that Avery was dismissed while Billy Dee Williams, who received the lowest judges score of the night, remained in the competition.
