Leonard Nimoy, the actor known best for his stoic portrayal of the logical Mr. Spock from the Star Trek series, died Friday at his home in Bel Air, California. He had been hospitalized earlier this week due to end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was 83.
Nimoy’s legacy will live on as the beloved Spock, but the actor’s talents were far from limited. He tried his hand at music, photography and writing, both poetry and autobiographies. He also directed and helped write Star Trek III: The Search for Spock and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
More: Leonard Nimoy through the years
More recently, he lent his iconic voice to an episode of The Big Bang Theory and many other projects, starred in episodes of Fringe and appeared in cameo roles on two recent Star Trek films alongside Zachary Quinto as a younger Spock.
The man who was known everywhere as the half-Vulcan first officer of the Starship Enterprise is already being paid tribute by fans, friends and colleagues with “Live Long and Prosper” trending on various social media websites.
Here’s his eerie last tweet post just four days before his death:
A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP
