Downton Abbey’s Dame Maggie Smith Shows Her Funny Side on ‘The Carol Burnett Show’

Recognized by fans of the British TV show Downton Abbey (seen stateside on PBS), Dame Maggie Smith has had an impressive career on stage, screen, and television.

She has won many awards throughout her career: Tonys, Oscars, Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, Golden Globes, and Emmys, to name just a few.

Known as a dramatic actress, for her stage work and appearances in movies like “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” and the Harry Potter series, she has also appeared in comedies such as the “Sister Act” movies and “Murder by Death.”

Did you know, though, that a lot of folks in the U.S. first came to know of her through her frequent guest appearances on The Carol Burnett Show? Let’s take a look back at some of her classic appearances with Carol, Tim Conway, Harvey Korman, and Vicki Lawrence.
