Look for the stars to light up Oscar night in this year’s red carpet “it” color.
Who needs a golden statue when you can say you won Oscar’s red carpet? The right dress can dazzle fans and fashion critics—turning any actress into a fashionista—and it all starts with the perfect color.
Color trends during awards season don’t happen by chance. The hues you see on the stars are inspired by colors spotted on the runways in Paris and Milan the year before, says celebrity stylist Elizabeth Stewart.
Champagne reigned supreme in 2014, ladies shined in metallics in 2013, coral was a craze in 2012, Hollywood saw red in 2011 and the stars were feeling blue in 2010.
So which color will you be seeing most on Oscar night? White. “Throw out the idea that it can’t be worn after Labor Day. Winter white is here to stay!” says Stewart, whose clients include Viola Davis, Cate Blanchett and Julia Roberts. Davis already rocked this trend at the Screen Actors Guild Awards last month, dazzling in an optic-white Max Mara gown.
“We’ll also see florals, inspired by the Paris couture shows,” adds Stewart. “The fashion world is exploring lots of prints and bold color combinations. These trends will eventually make it to the red carpet on the more daring actresses.”
In the meantime, this year’s “it” color will be making its mark—from the runways to the red carpet to your own closet. So don’t be afraid to trade in your little black dress for a chic white outfit. You’ll be in good company.
