At 60, Oprah Winfrey says Super Soul Sunday (airing Sunday mornings on OWN) is the show she was “born to do”; she also shares her key to a great interview.
Why is Super Soul Sunday your passion project?
I see it as an offering. If you want to be more fully present and live your life with a wide-open heart, this is the place to come to. I’m trying to raise consciousness in snackable bites.
Who’s an upcoming guest you’re excited about?
Russell Simmons. He’s been a meditator for many years, and he makes it simple: It’s just getting still with yourself.
How do you get people to open up in interviews?
My secret to being in sync with the person is to ask, “What do you want to accomplish by the time we finish?” I asked Lance Armstrong that. Then they realize I’m not out to get them.
You recently launched Oprah Chai Tea at Starbucks and Teavana.
I’ve been asked to do my own food line, clothing line, car line—you name it. I said yes to this because tea is literally organic for me. I love the ritual of making it in the morning. While it’s steeping, I read from a box of beautiful quotes I have. It’s like saying grace for me.
