There’s no denying how romantic dancing can be—and how many relationships (and rumored relationships, ahem Meryl Davis and Maks Chmerkovskiy) start in the Dancing With the Stars ballroom. But the last thing viewers were expecting on Tuesday night was a proposal!
After announcing that Calvin Johnson Jr. and Marilu Henner were safe from the night’s double elimination the show cut to a perfectly routine commercial break, only to return to something that took everyone by surprise. The show returned with two pros, Sasha Farber and Emma Slater, taking center stage. Were they about to perform a dance together? Not quite. Instead, Farber got down on one knee and proposed to Slater.
Relationships and even engagements are nothing new for DWTS. Pros and stars alike have found love between the pirouettes. Fan favorite Maks Chmerkovskiy is engaged to fellow pro dancer Peta Murgatroyd, and the two are expecting their first child together. And a few seasons back a DWTS partnership between business shark Robert Herjavec and pro dancer Kym Johnson turned into something more. The pair married in July.

Farber and Slater’s engagement came as an exciting surprise for cast and viewers alike. After Slater said “yes!”, everyone gathered in the center of the ballroom to celebrate as the show once again went to commercial.
