Happy birthday, Sting! The singer-songwriter turns 65 on October 2, 2016.
It’s a big year for the former Police frontman. He’s releasing his first rock album in more than a decade—a new solo LP, 57th & 9th, that will drop on November 11.
The new album will have an energetic yet contemplative tone, Sting says.
“It’s about searching and traveling, the road, that pull of the unknown,” he said in a statement reported by Rolling Stone. “On this album, we ended up with something that’s energetic and noisy, but also thoughtful.”
In one new song, “50,000”, the rock legend will sing about the recent loss of several of his contemporaries, including David Bowie, Prince, Motörhead’s Lemmy and his friend the actor Alan Rickman.

“It was a strange time because you think that these people are immortal, but then suddenly they’re like the rest of us, they die,” Sting told Entertainment Weekly. “It intrigues me that great success is this brilliant light, but also every brilliant light creates a dark shadow. I think wisdom only comes when you can navigate both. I’m getting philosophical.”
