Academy Award nominees Thomas Haden Church and Terrence Howard star in Cardboard Boxer, in theaters and On Demand today.
Written and directed by Knate Lee, Cardboard Boxer is a story of loss, redemption and friendship.
Church plays Willie, a good man living rough on the dangerous streets of Los Angeles’ Skid Row, who finds himself coerced by J.J. (Rhys Wakefield), a rich teenager, into fighting other homeless men for cash. J.J. video tapes the fights and posts them online.
Stuck in a violent world he doesn’t fully understand, Willie finds solace when he discovers the discarded diary of a troubled young girl (Elyse Cole) while dumpster diving.
In this video clip from the movie, Willie coaches Pinky, a fellow homeless man (Boyd Holbrook), who is legless, on how to panhandle larger sums of money by holding up a sign that says “War Hero.”
Howard stars as cab driver named Pope and Macy Gray plays a hooker who services her johns in a port-a-potty.
