Photos: And the New Miss America for 2017 Is….

Miss America 2016 Betty Cantrell passed on the crown and the title of Miss America to Miss Arkansas Savvy Shields on Sunday night’s broadcast of the 2017 Miss America Competition.

The new Miss America performed a jazz routine for the talent portion of the competition, and fielded a question about Hillary Clinton during the Q&A.

Earlier in the competition, Shields had been named preliminary talent winner for her jazz dance performance to the song “Just Keep Moving the Line” from the TV show Smash, for which she received a $2,000 scholarship. It is a mere pittance compared to the $50,000 scholarship money she receives for winning the title.

Miss South Carolina Rachel Wyatt was first runner-up. Miss New York Camille Sims was second runner-up. Third runner-up was Miss Washington Alicia Cooper, and rounding out the top five was was Miss Mississippi Laura Lee Lewis.

This year’s judges include Grammy winner Ciara, entrepreneur Mark Cuban, Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas, actress Sara Foster (VH1’s Barely Famous), musician and actress Laura Marano, singer-songwriter Cole Swindell, and former Miss America Sharlene Wells Hawkes.

The 2017 Miss America Competition was broadcast from Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. It included contestants from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
