Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, 44, is on both big and small(er) screens this summer. He stars as a CIA agent in the spy-spoof movie comedy Central Intelligence, and Sunday night he returns for his second season as Spencer Strasmore, a retired NFL player, in HBO’s Ballers. Here are five facts about the California-born wrestler-turned-actor.
1. He’s a third-generation pro wrestler. His dad wrestled under the name Rocky Johnson, and his grandpa was “High Chief” Peter Maivia.
2. He played football on a full scholarship for the University of Miami.
3. His first wrestling name was Flex Kavana, followed by Rocky Maivia, before becoming The Rock.
4. On May 21, 2015, he set a Guinness World Record for most selfies taken—105—within three minutes, at the premiere of his movie San Andreas.
5. He made his movie debut as the Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns (2001).
