Our Favorite Sitcom Dads

As Father’s Day approaches, and every single thing around us screams DAD, we thought it would be fun to remember the funny fathers on television—both the “old school” and more recent ones.

Unlike sitcom moms, sitcom dads take the brunt of the jokes. Let’s face it—they’re often the punchline; they do stupid things, and they come across like idiots. But they also love their kids and their spouses; they go to work (because we need another place for the hilarity to ensue), and they even make us cry. You know, in those “very special episodes” or when they admit that they care for their kids.

For the most part, though, they make us laugh.

The first TV dad I remember was Fred Flintstone. He got into more trouble in each episode. Based on The Honeymooners, The Flintstones gave me my first look into the family dynamic on TV. Fred and Barney always cracked me up.

Other favorites of mine? Herman Munster, Dan Conner, Ray Barone, Homer Simpson, and more.

Enjoy some clips of these great sitcom dads who keep us laughing.

Fred Flintstone gets put in charge of handling the entertainment for Pebbles’ birthday. Not surprisingly, he screws everything up. (Did you know that famous voice artist, Mel Blanc, provided the voice for Barney Rubble? You may know his voice from other cartoon greats Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and many, many more.)
