Mistresses is back for its fourth season and the story  picks up a year after the events that took place in the season three finale. Joss (Jes Macallan) has to relive the terrifying events of the night of the Luca’s murder, and while she keeps telling everyone she is okay, she isn’t.

Karen (Yunjin Kim) is a single mother — the couple she had the relationship with last season are no longer in the picture. After Vivian (Sonja Bennett) died, Alec (Ed Quinn) couldn’t deal with the situation and he headed out to work with Doctors Without Borders. So, Karen hired a manny (Jerry O’Connell) to help her with her daughter, while she is out promoting the new book she has written.

And Marc (Rob Mayes) and April (Rochelle Aytes) are now living together as a couple — but all is not smooth sailing. Even though they moved into smaller quarters, Marc hasn’t found a steady job to help pay the bills, April is still struggling with her boutique, and worrying that her teenage daughter Lucy (Corinne Massiah) is growing up too fast.

Parade.com spoke with Aytes and Mayes on the Santa Clarita set of Mistresses to get the answers to some burning questions on what lies ahead for Season 4.

Do you think the title still works since no one is actually a mistress when we start this season?

Rochelle: I do. There is a misconception about the show. It is not just about these women having affairs; it is also about these women, who are friends, dealing with different types of relationships and how they get through it, more than the name Mistresses.

So how is the move back to L.A. from Vancouver?

Rochelle: I feel like we are back home. We had two years here. It is a lot easier to film here than it was in Vancouver, although, I love Vancouver. It was just hard to travel there and uproot life.

Rob: It is great to be back.

How has the relationship changed between the three original women, now that Savvy (Alyssa Milano) is definitely gone?

Rochelle: I feel like the relationship has grown as the three of us have grown. We have been together now for four years. As individuals we have this bond and we have become so much more comfortable with each other.

April was struggling with her store last season, yet she dumped the high school principal (Brian White) she was dating for the under employed Marc.

Rochelle: She dumped the principal because it didn’t feel right. Marc and April was certainly unexpected, but through the course of last season, we got to see different sides of Marc and how wonderful he was. He was great with Lucy and me, and we fell in love.

For Marc this is a big change. He has always been footloose and fancy free. How is he dealing with it and might his nephew come back?

Rob: That would be great if he came back. I can’t say. I think Marc feels it is nice to settle down with someone as amazing as April. Marc is getting older and trying to be responsible, not drinking and partying. He is focusing on the music.

Rochelle: Rob is a fantastic musician and they’re written that into the show.

So Marc is not back working with Harry?

Rob: No. There’s a whole music element that becomes a pretty prominent storyline this year.

How are things between April and Lucy? They were tense last season.

Rochelle: We have our ups and downs. She is 14 years old now and it has become even more tense with different issues. Older more adult conversations are starting to happen now. Boys have come into play.

Lucy is okay with Marc? She didn’t much care for Principal Patterson.

Rochelle: She is. She really likes Marc.

Rob: We have a really nice relationship.

Are you comfortable doing the love scenes together? There’s a lot of skin on this show, not so much sex.

Rochelle: It’s ABC, not cable, so before you get too uncomfortable, they say, “Cut.” I’m okay. It’s never fully comfortable, but it’s certainly not HBO.

Rob: Cinemax!

Mistresses returns for its fourth season at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC tonight.
