There’s one shocking hookup and two proposals in the penultimate episode of Grey’s Anatomy, according to the promo released by ABC.
One of the proposals could be between Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone), who take their relationship to the next level on the “At Last” episode.
“Owen decides he’s going to take a huge step,” McKidd told TVLine. “And, since that huge step involves his newly recommitted girlfriend, naturally, that kind of leads them into a conversation about, ‘What is the future for us?’”
While Owen and Amelia may have a future, things don’t look as bright for Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), who has more than once refused his proposal, even though he bought her a ring.
“It’s a long time coming, in my point of view, for Jo to finally answer that question,” Luddington told EW. “That ring has been in a box in a drawer for I don’t know how many months now. I’m surprised it almost hasn’t come up yet. It is time for Jo to finally answer the question and clarify where they stand in their relationship.”
Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey, also weighed in on the Alex/Jo relationship, telling EW, “It’s not good between them… She’s pushing him away. There is a big Alex and Jo situation happening that’s going to explain a lot of why they haven’t gotten together yet.”
So does that mean that the shocking hook-up could be Meredith and Alex? They are like brother and sister, so that would be outrageous, but it wouldn’t be the first time that series creator Shonda Rhimes has written something scandalous.
Even so, it is a relationship that most likely wouldn’t go anywhere, as Pompeo told EW, “We’re all acknowledging that Derek [Patrick Dempsey] was Meredith’s one great love, and there won’t ever be another great love like that. She’ll date, she’ll have other relationships possibly, but everybody only gets one great love.”
The episode will also deal with the aftermath of the custody battle between Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw). The judge’s decision to award sole custody to Arizona came as a surprise, because viewers expected Callie, who is Sofia’s (Eva Ariel Binder) biological mother and who has more time to parent to walk out of court with custody of her daughter.
The other candidate for a proposal could be April (Sarah Drew). Last week, she and Jackson (Jesse Williams) sat down like grownups and worked out a calendar on shared parenting for their unborn child. Could they take it a step further and reunite as a couple?
“They definitely have hope,” Williams told TVLine. “I think, as long as they’re alive, they’re going to have hope, because they care deeply about each other. I would be hard-pressed to ever say the slate is wiped completely clean for them emotionally.”
