This was and is YOUR music. If you’re a midlifer or boomer and want to witness a one-time rock n’ roll dream-team event, this has to be it. Pack your bags for a musical oasis in the desert, aptly dubbed “Desert Trip.” It’s a mega-concert featuring The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Neil Young, Roger Waters of Pink Floyd and The Who. It’s being compared to Woodstock, without the love and peace.
Those six rock legends will take the stage at the Empire Polo Club October 7-9 in Indio, California, near Palm Springs. Prices start at $199 for a single-day ticket, on up to $1,599 for a three-day reserved grandstand pass. Shows start at sunset.
‘Oldchella’
The super-concert organized by Goldenvoice is being dubbed “Coachella for old people” or “Oldchella,” says CNN, but no one who’s set on attending could give a darn about what it’s called. They just want to be there. The moniker pays homage to the hip Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival that played two weekends last month—Indio is in that valley.
Billboard projects the Desert Trip concert could rake in $100 million if promoters decide to extend to two weekends, following Coachella’s lead.
Dine to the Music
According to the Los Angeles Times, food will also be a central focus. An outrageous list of more than 30 celebrity chefs from SoCal and New York will create fabulous culinary fare for concert guests who want to partake in “Outstanding in the Field” dinners—sit-down, multi-course affairs. Look for additional food experiences paired with wine, food and craft beer along with a weekend bundle food experience to pleasure your palate beyond food stands.
How to Buy Tickets
Here’s the deal. Passes go on sale Monday, May 9 at 10 a.m. PDT at www.deserttrip.com. The Telegraph says to log in from the ticket purchase page. The operators warn you now: Do not buy anything from scalpers or unauthorized sellers. You’ll be out of luck, and your money.
I hope to cover this for you and have already checked out accommodations. There were scarce few left at the usual places. You can camp out or bring the RV. Hotel packages are offered on the event’s website. The drive from Los Angeles is 3 hours, 45 minutes. A once-in-a-lifetime experience is worth it. Rock on.
