As Downton Abbey draws to a close on the evening of March 6, here are a few things you may not know about the historical drama’s backbone: creator and executive producer Julian Fellowes.

—He was born in Cairo.

—His title is Baron of West Stafford, and like Lord Grantham on Downton Abbey, he’s a conservative member of Britain’s House of Lords.

—His wife, Emma, is a lady-in-waiting for HRH Princess Michael of Kent. They legally changed their family name to Kitchener-Fellowes in 1998.

—Fellowes began his career as an actor. In 1983, he almost landed the role replacing Herve Villechaize as the butler on Fantasy Island.

—He’s played Winston Churchill twice on television, in The Treaty and The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.

—In the 1970s, he wrote romance novels under the nom de plume Rebecca Greville. Under his own name, he authored Snobs and Past Imperfect.
