Emma (Jennifer Morrison) came back into the light in the winter finale of Once Upon a Time when Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) absorbed all the Darkness and then Emma was forced to kill him in an attempt to eradicate Darkness from the world forever.
But she was tricked by Rumple (Robert Carlyle), who once again has taken on the role of the Dark One. Now Emma is determined to rescue her love from the fate that resulted from his sacrifice.
So begins the second half of Season 5 of Once Upon a Time as Emma, Regina (Lana Parrilla), Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin), David (Josh Dallas), Robin (Sean Maguire), Henry (Jared Gilmore) and Gold (Carlyle) arrive in the Underworld, on a mission to rescue Hook, only to discover that their search will be more difficult than they had anticipated. The inhabitants of the Underworld—all souls with unfinished business and many with quite personal vendettas—hound our heroes at every turn.
“Now that we’ve gone into the Underworld, we have the opportunity to revisit some characters that we’ve lost,” Morrison said at a celebration of the show’s 100th episode. “[Characters] that may have some unfinished business, so we are definitely going to see some people we haven’t seen in a while.”
Among them will be Prince Henry (Tony Perez), Neal Cassidy (Michael Raymond-James), Sidney Glass (Giancarlo Esposito), The Blind Witch (Emma Caulfield), and Peter Pan (Robbie Kay).
“The Underworld is a place of unfinished business,” says creator/executive producer Adam Horowitz. “So many of our characters are going to confront elements of their past that are going to come to them. Hopefully, in surprising and cool ways.”
Also returning later in Season 5 will be Cruella de Vil (Victoria Smurfit), Milah (Rachel Shelley), Mulan (Jamie Chung), Ruby (Meghan Ory), Arthur (Liam Garrigan), Merida (Amy Manson), Guinevere (Joana Metrass), Zelena (Rebecca Mader), and Liam (Bernard Curry).
Once Upon a Time’s 100th episode airs Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
