For the first time since Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Pitt are together again on-screen in By the Sea, opening in theaters on November 13 — and now we have a sneak peek.
By the Sea is Jolie Pitt’s follow-up film as a director to Unbroken, which was the World War II-set story of Louis Zamperini, who qualified for the 1936 Olympics as a runner, then enlisted when war broke out and ended up a POW in a Japanese interment camp.
By the Sea is also a period piece set in the 1970s, in which the actress and her real-life husband star as an American writer named Roland (Pitt) and his wife, Vanessa (Jolie Pitt), who arrive in a tranquil and picturesque seaside resort in France, their marriage in apparent crisis. As they spend time with fellow travelers, including young newlyweds Lea (Mélanie Laurent) and François (Melvil Poupaud), and village locals Michel (Niels Arestrup) and Patrice (Richard Bohringer), the couple begins to come to terms with unresolved issues in their own lives.
