Cate Blanchett loves Lucy! The Academy Award-winning actress is set to play the Emmy-winning, red-headed comedienne in a biopic that is being written by Aaron Sorkin, whose film credits include Moneyball and The Social Network, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film will focus on Ball’s life, including her marriage to Desi Arnaz, and their creation of the still-running, hit sitcom I Love Lucy. Ball won four Emmys for her role as Lucy Ricardo.
Ball, who died in 1989, also starred in The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour, The Lucy Show, Here’s Lucy and Life with Lucy. After divorcing Arnaz in 1960, she took control of Desilu Productions.
The as-yet-untitled project is being produced by the couple’s children Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr. for Escape Artists.
Blanchett won her Oscars for Blue Jasmine and The Aviator. Next up for the Aussie actress is the Dan Rather biopic Truth.
